The Gurudwara located on the right bank of river Alaknanda is the most important landmark in the area. It also provides accommodation to pilgrims. It is the road-head and the starting point for trekking to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. Located in the Bhundyar Ganga in Chamoil District, the valley is famous for its beautiful beds of flowers, that form an ethereal sight on the Joshimath- Badrinath Road. Hundreds of people, mostly Sikh pilgrims on way to the holy shrine of Hemkund Sahib and occasional tourists to the Valley of Flowers, arrive here every day. There are many Festival celebrated in Govindghat like Ramnavami and Dasserra Festival. Ramnavami Festival is marked with the birthday of Lord Rama and is celebrated in the Hindi month of Chaitra. Another Fesival Dasserra generally falls in the month of October or November and marks the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana.
Char Dham Yatra and Govindghat Govindghat is another important places during Char Dham Yatra, which while visiting Badrinath. Govindghat has gate system which closes during the evening. Many Char Dham Pilgrims choose to halt at Govindghat. Tourists have the options of hiring a car or any other vehicle from Joshimath to Govindghat. The district of Govindghat also has immense religious and cultural importance. It is believed that Lord Hanuman found the Sanjeevani herb at this place which was used to restore the health of unconscious Laxman.
