History and Legends

Auli is a lesser known hill station when compared to its counterparts – Shimla, Gulmarg and Manali. The slopes of Auli were the training ground for the Indian Paramilitary Forces and Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. Today, Auli Ice Sky is known for its snow covered slopes and panoramic views of the surrounding lofty peaks of the Himalayas like Trishul, Nanda Devi, Kamet, Mana Parvat, Beethartoli, Nilkanth, Hathi Parbat, Ghori Parbat and Dunagiri. According to legend, the revered Guru Adi Shankaracharya visited Auli during 8th century AD. He built a math at Joshimath, which still is intact and is known by the name Sankaracharya Tapastali.

Besides these snowy miracles, the boulevards through the slopes offers marvelous views of gorgeous apple orchards and fine deodar trees, which make Char Dham Yatra, stride a precious experience. You can visit Auli from Joshimath, you can either take taxi or visit there by Ropeway. The place also has the highest and longest cable car that stretches up to 4 km and is called Gondola.

By Bus : Auli is only 16 km drive from Joshimath. State transport and Union buses ply regularly between Joshimath and Rishikesh (253 km). Local Transport Union Buses and State Transport buses operate between Joshimath and Rishikesh(253 km), Haridwar (277 km), Dehradun (298 km) and Delhi (500 km).

Chopta is a small settlement and valley that is located in the Northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located at an altitude of 2680 meters above sea level. Chopta is situated in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. Chopta is the starting point of the trekking to famous Tungnath Mandir.
